This Monday I head back home to California for six weeks. It’ll be the first time I’ve been back since a quick five-day trip in April for my mom’s birthday, and the most amount of time spent out of New York since moving here. For the first week, I’ll be relaxing in my old room at my mom’s house, eating steaks and summer fruit for a week. Then I’ll head up North to Camp Winnarainbow for four weeks, teaching juggling, writing songs, and goofing off with the best friends a guy could have. Then I’ll spend another week at home and leave right after my brother’s wedding. It’s going to be a fantastic time. I can’t wait to see everybody.
And then by the time I get back to New York, it’ll have been very close to a year since I moved out here. I feel like I’ve done pretty well. I remember writing down a list of things I wanted to accomplish after moving. I don’t know where it went and I don’t remember a lot of the things on it. But I feel like most of the items on the list were short term goals (LEARN TO DO LAUNDRY) that I could definitely check off with pride on a day of reflection like today.
I did lots of cool stuff this year! I made friends! I worked as a pizza making apprentice AND an ice cream scooper. My faith in comedy was invigorated in huge ways. I took crazy long walks. I taught a video production class to kids. I went to Coney Island! I let the UCB theater take over my life. My mom was in the audience for my very first (super fun) improv show. I found tons of free stuff on the sidewalk.
I’m tired. This vacation will be good for me. I expect to, and hope to hit the ground running with the new plans I’ve made for myself once I get back here. Planning worked out nicely last time. It’ll be fun. More on that later.
Bye, Brooklyn! Bye, New York! I’ll miss you, see you soon n’ all that good stuff.
