So the big blowout trend on YouTube these days happens to be Heath Ledger-as-the-Joker impression videos.
Great.
So now every one’s got their face paint, and their buggy eyes, and their licky lips, and their grumbly twitchy stuttery stop it stop it stop it just stop it.
I am one heck of a Batman fan. I’m an avid reader and I seriously considered jeopardizing my summer job for a chance to sneak off and see The Dark Knight on the opening night. Thankfully, I was smart enough to not do that. But when I did finally see it, hoo boy. I almost had a heart attack. My only problem I have with the movie (and this was a problem with the 1989 Batman Movie, and the Batman Animated Series) is that people see the Joker in whatever incarnation, Ledger, the voice of Mark Hamill, or Jack Nicholson, and they go: “huh, okay. That’s the Joker, and that’s what he’s always like.”
AND THENNNN! People who want to do an impression of the Joker take that and simply do an impression of the actor doing their take on the character. Without giving any consideration of adding some kind of personal twist to it. So then it just becomes a copy of a copy. A bunch of faux-kers, if you will. Not to mention the neglect to crack a couple comic book with the Joker. So you just end up with crappy impressions of the cartoon Joker and Heath Ledger.
I can’t decide what’s worse. The past 20 years of this voice:

OR THOUSANDS OF THESE VIDEOS FOR THE NEXT 20 YEARS:

It’s one thirty in the morning. This was poorly written. I care about Batman way too much. I’m also tired.
What it all comes down to is that I’m just dreading the halloween season and the ungodly numbers of Jokers I will see, and the cringe-worthy “wanna know how I got these scars” line recital marathons I’ll hear. More than anything, I want to put on a Batsuit and respond with a gravely “WHERE’S HARVEY?!” and punch my way through a Joker filled room.
I probably shouldn’t be Batman for Halloween.
