Anonymous asked: What has been the BEST day you've experienced in New York to date?
Short Answer: October 15th, 2009. On the one-year anniversary of my move to New York, Erik Tanouye calls me and tells me I’ve been randomly picked to perform at the Lottery at UCB. Then, I go to the Union Square Barnes & Noble to get my Wu-Tang Manual signed by the RZA. I wrote all about it here.
Longer Answer: The greatest day of my life (since moving to NY) happened during a supernatural streak of luck. For seven days straight, something amazing would happen every single day. I will forever be grateful and blown away by that marathon of joy in my life. Here’s a quick rundown of that week.
DAY 1: I got word that there was one open slot in the very last Curtis Gwinn Improv 401 class. I had to run across town frantic action movie style to my friend’s apartment to use his computer. It was a glorious. The triumph from this victory gave me the courage to finally make dinner plans with this girl I wanted to take on a date.
DAY 2: (My 1 year anniversary of me moving to New York): RZA and the Lottery. Read all about it above.
DAY 3: My first date with that girl I asked out on DAY 1. Cool!
DAY 4: A trip to the Museum of Natural History with a bunch of UCB folks. I made a lot of friends that day. I was definitely still the new guy, but people liked me and it felt awesome.
DAY 5: Practice session with the other improvisers in The Lottery.
DAY 6: First practice session with a group that will eventually become Belgian Rattlesnake.
DAY 7: I perform in The Lottery with Jim Santangeli and Ben Rodgers. Maybe the most fun improv show I’ve done so far. A boatload of my best friends were there to see it, too.
DAY 8: Crappy day all day. My winning streak ends. My friend and I teach our annoying after-school video production class. After work, we sit on his couch exhausted. But THEN! I receive a text from that girl, asking if I want to come over and eat dinner sometime. BRAIN EXPLOSION.
Best week of my life.
